World Autism Awareness Day

Today I have an extra special to post to share.  In case you didn't know, today is World Autism Awareness Day.

Did you know that autism now affects 1 in 88 children and 1 in 54 boys?
Did you know that autism prevalence figures are growing?
Did you know that more children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with AIDS, diabetes & cancer combined?
Did you know that autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the U.S.?
Did you know that autism costs the nation $126 billion per year?
Did you know that autism receives less than 5% of the research funding of many less prevalent childhood diseases?
Did you know that boys are four times more likely than girls to have autism?
Did you know that there is no medical detection or cure for autism?

Those statistics tell me that more than likely we all know someone that is affected by autism.  And it also tells me that there isn't enough being done to help the families that are affected by it.  This day is about raising awareness and doing what you can to help get the word out.  I know my blog is still relatively small but even if this reaches one or two people I've done something.  :)

Today I am wearing blue for Eli.  I hear he really likes when his Mom wears nail polish so I hope he likes this :).
