Shamrocks and Rainbows

Hey y'all!  Happy St. Patrick's Day! Hope you didn't get pinched today!  The only green I wore myself was on my nails lol  I wore OPI Gel A Grape Fit with a little shamrock accent nail.

I am loving gel polish right now.  I have a hard time keeping my mani's nice working on clients so gel polish is really perfect for me.  I plan on investing in my own light soon and building my gel polish collection.

In the spirit of the day, I thought I'd show you a client manicure I did this week too that was a rainbow gradient french tip.  She was very pleased!

She was actually a repeat client for me.  She came in last week and got a manicure and a cute yellow french tip and I was telling her about this design and she came back for it!

It's not much yet, maybe 3 or 4 including my Mom haha, but I am slowly building a little bit of a clientele so that's pretty exciting.  Have I mentioned that I love doing this?

I'm working on my first big nail art contest too for Nails Magazine.  I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet though but I have several ideas rolling around.  I'm really excited about doing that.  I've done several amateur contests hosted by other bloggers so this isn't my first but it's definitely my first semi-professional contest.  I would love to be able to put that win in my portfolio!!!!

Anyhoo, thanks for stopping by today!  Have a great week! XOXO

P.S.  My giveaway ended last night and I've already contacted the winner and gotten a response.  Congrats to the winner and thanks to everyone for entering!

M-I-C-K-E-Y-M-O-U-S-E

Hey y'all!  This past week was kind of hectic for me.  I missed a few days of school because my son had surgery on Wednesday.  He had his tonsils and adenoids removed. :(  He's doing pretty good though, he's a tough boy!

I got back to school on Friday after missing 2 1/2 days.  I went for a few hours on Thursday just long enough to take my test.  Which I made a 98% on woohoo!  This week's lesson was on nail art.  The one question I missed was about the freaking color wheel. Damn it!!! :/  I only missed the one question though so I'm all that upset lol.

On Saturday I had a really sweet lady come in to see me.  She came in because she heard about my nail art skills from one of her co-workers and wanted me to do Mickey Mouse nail art for her.  I was really excited to do this too because it was really the first real nail art I've gotten to do on a client AND she came just for ME to do it.  She is a huge Mickey fan, if you can't tell by her ring.

I'm starting to get the hang of working on clients and all that. It is kind of nerve wracking sometimes though.  I worry a lot about hurting the clients, especially when I'm working on their cuticles.  I still don't have my kit yet, I still have a few more weeks but I went ahead and bought a few implements so I would already have a set.  I bought a pair of OPI cuticle nippers that are pretty awesome.  I had never used nippers before school.  Let me tell ya, there is a serious fine line sometimes between cuticle and living skin.  o.O  Thankfully I've never drawn blood but I've heard a few "ouches".  Like I said, nerve wracking!

I've been going to school for a month now and so far so good.  Yay!  I'm really going to try to start posting more.  Obviously I do a lot of nails but I just forget to take pics.  I don't do my own nails as much I used to though.  Honestly, spending 7 hours a day at school doing nails and talking about nails, it just doesn't leave me wanting to do much to my own when I get home.

Anyhoo, there's less than a week left to enter my giveaway.  If you haven't already, you can enter HERE.  Thanks for stopping by! XOXO

Colorful Chevron Accent Nails

Hey y'all!  I have been super busy lately, with the family and school, it doesn't leave a whole lot of time for blogging :(.  Things with school are going really well.  We got a new teacher last week and she's really great.  She's full of so much information and really knows her stuff.  Last week we worked on gel nails, which was really interesting.  I had never had any experience with gel enhancements before, it's pretty neat stuff.  I made a 92% on my test, go me!

This coming week our chapter is on nail art, woohoo!!!  I've read through the chapter once and it's not as fun as you'd think it would be lol.  I gotta know all of names of the parts of a paint brush for sobbing outloud. I don't think I really need to know that to be a good nail artist but apparently the State Board of Cosmetology thinks I do. Apparently nail technicians are full of all types of useless information.  lol   I mean really, which is more important to you?  That your nail tech can tell you what the name of the metal piece is on a paint brush or that your nail tech can USE said paint brush to make your nails look bad ass?  Yeah, me too!

Anyhoo, so I did some pretty cute nails last week.  They are inspired by my new lunch box lol  It has a really cute chevron pattern, pretty much exactly like my nails :)

This is the part where I would usually tell you what polishes I used but to be quite honest with you, I did these about a week ago and I don't remember what I used.  Well, the black is Wet and Wild Black Creme and the white is Pure Ice White, I do remember that much lol.

Thanks for stopping by today.  Don't forget about my giveaway, 12 days left to enter!  XOXO
